Interview with Bucs Pass Game Coordinator for Offensive Coordinator Position
TAMPA — Wanting continuity on offense, the Bucs on Wednesday interviewed one of their own: pass game coordinator Josh Grizzard.
Grizzard’s Impressive Credentials
Grizzard received the first in-person interview as the team seeks to replace offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who was introduced Monday as head coach of the Jaguars. The other five interviews with candidates all have been virtual.
In his first season with the Bucs, Grizzard, 34, was part of an offense that averaged 29.5 points per game. Quarterback Baker Mayfield enjoyed a second straight Pro Bowl season, passing for a career-high 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns while completing more than 71% of his passes.
Grizzard joined the Bucs in 2024 after spending the previous seven years with the Dolphins. He helped develop Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle, who established a league rookie record with 104 catches in 2021 for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns.
Candidates for the Position
Grizzard is the sixth candidate to interview with the Bucs, including three members of the Rams’ coaching staff: quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone, offensive assistant/pass game specialist Nate Scheelhaase, and tight ends coach/pass game coordinator Nick Caley. Before joining the Bucs, Coen worked several seasons on the Rams staff with head coach Sean McVay and brought that offensive scheme to Tampa Bay.
The Bucs passing game was solid under Grizzard last season. Mike Evans enjoyed his 11th straight 1,000-yard receiving season, while rookie Jalen McMillan had seven touchdown receptions over his final five regular season games.
Conclusion
The Bucs are actively seeking a new offensive coordinator to continue their successful offensive strategy. With experienced candidates like Grizzard and others from the Rams’ coaching staff, the future looks bright for the team.
