Tampa Bay Buccaneers Promote Offensive Line Coaches
Loyalty is a two-way street for the Bucs.
Coaching Changes
A week after denying permission for the Jaguars and Liam Coen to interview offensive line coach Kevin Carberry and assistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci, both assistants have been given a promotion by the Bucs.
Carberry becomes the Bucs’ run game coordinator/offensive line coach while Picucci is now the offensive line coach.
While their day-to-day responsibilities may not change much, it’s an acknowledgement of their value to the offense.
Coen’s Controversy
Coen caused some bad blood with the Bucs after reneging on an agreement to remain as offensive coordinator to take the Jaguars’ head coaching job.
On Wednesday, assistant general manager Mike Greenberg withdrew his name from consideration for the Jaguars’ GM job.
Coen was successful in bringing one assistant from Tampa Bay. Tight ends coach John Van Dam is being hired as the Jaguars’ pass game specialist. Van Dam had allowed his contract to expire.
Success on the Field
Carberry and Picucci were big reasons why the Bucs went from last in the NFL in rushing offense the previous two seasons to fourth.
Rookie running back Bucky Irving became the first player to rush for 1,000 yards since Doug Martin in 2015.
