The Tampa Bay Lightning faced a tough challenge as they took on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Despite their struggles on the road and at MSG, the Lightning managed to secure a convincing 5-1 victory on Monday night.

The Lightning started the game on the back foot, being outshot 11-1 in the first 13 minutes. However, they quickly turned things around with three quick goals in a span of 1 minute and 45 seconds in the first period. Their power play, which had been struggling recently, came alive and went 3-for-4 on the night.

This win marked the Lightning’s first regular season victory at MSG in over six years, a significant milestone for the team. Brayden Point had a standout performance, scoring two goals on the power play and reaching the 40-goal mark for the season. Nikita Kucherov also made history by recording his third straight 80-assist season.

With only five games left in the regular season, the Lightning are closing in on the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Maintaining home ice advantage is crucial for the playoffs, and the team is focused on fine-tuning their game for the postseason.

The Lightning’s power play, which had been struggling in recent games, came through with a new look. Brayden Point’s positional shift to the left wing added a new dimension to their play, leading to more movement and creativity on the ice. This change caught the Rangers off guard and resulted in a more dynamic power play performance.

Jake Guentzel played a key role in setting up Point for his goals, utilizing backdoor plays to exploit the Rangers’ defense. The Lightning’s first power-play goal was a result of their quick transition play, capitalizing on a botched shorthanded opportunity by the Rangers.

Gourde breaks the drought

Yanni Gourde ended his scoring drought with a crucial goal in Monday’s game. Despite a string of scoreless performances, Gourde found the back of the net after being tripped in front of the goal, showcasing his determination and skill.

Vasilevskiy stands tall

Andrei Vasilevskiy put on a stellar performance in goal, making 38 saves and withstanding a relentless offensive barrage from the Rangers. Despite facing constant pressure, Vasilevskiy stood tall and ensured the Lightning secured the win.

With Vasilevskiy expected to rest for a couple of games before the playoffs, the Lightning are gearing up for a strong finish to the regular season. Their recent victory at MSG has put them in a promising position as they head towards the postseason.
