Rays Rally for Win Against Rockies
Much of the talk around the Rays clubhouse Sunday morning was about how they were robbed repeatedly in Saturday’s loss by the Rockies’ dazzling defense. Things evened out a few hours later when the Rays took advantage of a messy sixth inning by the Rockies to rally for four runs and an eventual 6-4 win. This victory gave the Rays a win in their inaugural series at Steinbrenner Field.
A Messy Sixth Inning
The score was tied 2-2 when the Rays started the sixth inning somewhat benignly. It all changed when a series of errors by the Rockies allowed the Rays to score four runs without hitting a ball out of the infield. The comeback was highlighted by a bunt by Jose Caballero that led to two runs.
Strong Pitching and Early Lead
Pitcher Taj Bradley gave the Rays six solid innings, scattering five hits, walking none, and striking out seven. The Rays grabbed an early lead with a double by Yandy Diaz and a homer by Brandon Lowe.
