Lightning officials and fans in Tampa have long dreamed of hosting an outdoor game in Florida. Finally, their wish is coming true with the upcoming Stadium Series game between the Lightning and the Bruins at Raymond James Stadium on Feb. 1, 2026. This event, combined with the Panthers hosting the Winter Classic in the same season, is generating excitement in a region that has been lacking in outdoor hockey experiences.
Although outdoor games have become somewhat routine after 18 seasons, the NHL is determined to shake things up. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission’s bold idea of pitching an outdoor game to the league through billboards on the way to the airport after the 2018 NHL All-Star Game has now materialized.
The NHL is enthusiastic about the uniqueness of the upcoming game, recognizing the need to keep things fresh to maintain fan interest. A special canopied structure will be constructed at RayJay field to ensure optimal playing conditions, despite Florida’s unpredictable weather patterns.
While challenges like rain, humidity, and heat may arise, the league is prepared to handle them with expert meteorological support. A different approach will be taken in managing any unforeseen circumstances during the game.
Bruins rematch means a little more for Bolts
The upcoming rematch between the Lightning and the struggling Bruins holds significance for both teams. While the Lightning aim to secure more points against a challenging rival, the Bruins seek to reverse their losing streak and ignite a sense of unity within the team.
As the two teams face off in Boston, the game will serve as a platform for them to showcase their competitive spirits and determination to succeed in the Atlantic Division standings.
